A wrong way accident in Chateauguay overnight has closed highway 30 near westbound at Chateauguay (near Brisebois/Walmart Chateauguay).
The crash happened at 12:15 a.m., according to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
The highway shall likely remain closed this morning for the rush hour.
It has been reported that a female driver in her 20`s has been brought to hospital in serious condition. A possible scenario is that the female driver may have driven in the wrong direction on the highway, heading east on the westbound lanes, then colliding with an oncoming tanker truck.
The truck driver was also transported to hospital as a precaution.
Both vehicles caught fire due to the accident. Specific details are yet to be confirmed.
At present time, authorities remain at the scene performing a detailed investigation into the fiery crash.
Update: The highway has reopened now @ approx. 12:00 pm.
